About the Role:
Join Greenfield Community College as our Dean of Liberal Arts and make a significant impact on the future of higher education in our vibrant community. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic direction of the college, leading the Arts & Sciences faculty, and ensuring that our programs deliver innovative, student-centered learning experiences aligned with the college's mission and values.
Responsibilities:
- Leads Arts & Sciences Faculty developing innovative, student-centered curricula promoting student success in meeting program outcomes in alignment with the GCC Mission, Vision, and values;
- Supports the Associate Dean of Academic Operations in the schedule building process for each semester;
- Provides mentorship for Faculty as they develop as classroom instructors and college leaders;
- Hires, evaluates, and retains Adjunct Faculty in accordance with the bargaining unit agreement;
- Collaborates with the Associate Director of Learning Outcomes Assessment and faculty on assessment plans for all degree and certificate programs;
- Represents the college and the faculty on external boards and organizations;
- Partners with the Dean of Students on strategies to handle student concerns, and enhance student retention;
- Develops strong partnerships with local and regional institutions of higher education to foster transfer relationships and articulation agreements;
- In cooperation with the President, Vice President, and Faculty, develops academic strategy for the institution using evidence-based approaches to plan for the future;
- Performs Faculty classroom observations and staff evaluations;
- Reviews and provide guidance for Curriculum Actions and Graduation as part of the curriculum process;
- Remains compliant with the requirements of the Faculty union contracts including, but not limited to: Change of Rank, Tenure, and workload calculations;
- Consults with Faculty and Staff leadership on issues of governance;
- Maintains a strong working relationship with bargaining unit leadership while remaining knowledgeable of bargaining agreements;
- Promotes an inclusive learning and work environment built on mutual respect, collaboration, and transparent communication that demonstrates the value of DEI in service to the faculty and staff;
- Maintains currency regarding Arts & Sciences trends, practices, technologies, career pathways; participates in Arts & Sciences program student activities and engages in the life of the college beyond program delivery;
- Facilitates implementation of the GCC program review process and use of results in conjunction with the VPAA;
- Participates in department chair/Program coordinator meetings, college committees, and shared governance opportunities;
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Earned Master's degree.
- Demonstrated leadership that inspires trust, supports transparency, and fosters collegiality and collaboration across campus and in the community.
- Significant teaching experience in higher education.
- Achievement in higher education as an academic administrator.
- Commitment to the comprehensive community college mission of open access.
- Knowledge of emergent trends in higher education that affect community colleges.
- Demonstrated leadership in the integration of instruction and services to students as a way to create and maintain a supportive student-centered learning environment.
- Record of successful experience in creating and leading inclusive and diverse organizations.
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership in academic administration
- Experience working within the Guided Pathways model
- Record of success fostering productive internal and external relationships with various stakeholders and constituents in a small college environment.
- Experience with emerging pedagogy, including AI.
- Experience working in a shared governance and collective bargaining environment.
- Demonstrated ability to assess internal and external initiatives in context of college mission, culture and competing demands.
