Director of Purchasing Job Description
The Director of Purchasing oversees purchasing, inventory, and material needs for the Fire District in this annually appointed role. This position is responsible for managing various aspects of procurement, including:
- Managing RFPs (requests for proposals) for services such as sealcoating, heating oil, and propane.
- Procuring and delivering sundries like water, soap, and other essential items to four fire stations.
- Coordinating annual inspections and maintenance of equipment like generators, fire systems, and apparatus with the District Chief and BoFC (Board of Fire Commissioners).
- Arranging station maintenance tasks such as alarm system checks and IT support with the Maintenance Employee who reports to the BoFC.
- Tracking procurement budgets and reporting any variances to the BoFC and Treasurer.
- Conducting inventory, testing, and repairs of equipment such as radios and personal protective equipment using authorized software.
- Overseeing the EMS supply system and firefighter fit testing, with training provided as needed.
- Managing IT systems and supporting the I AM Responding system, with training also provided as needed.
- Acting as the primary liaison with vendors and contractors.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, or similar software applications.
- Familiarity with New York State Fire District laws.
- An Associate's degree or three or more years of experience in procurement.
Additional Requirements
- Bondability, a valid New York State driver's license, enrollment in DMV/LENS, and residency within the district (or willingness to relocate). The position may require evening, weekend, and travel commitments.
Physical Demands
Lifting up to 50 pounds (e.g., station supplies), navigating stairs, and working in various physical environments.
