Activity Director| Qualifications:
- Two years’ supervisory experience in a health care setting preferred
- Experience in creating and developing a dementia centered activities program
- Is a qualified occupational therapist; or is a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist; or is a qualified occupational therapy assistant; or is a qualified recreation assistant; or has a minimum of two years full time, paid experience acceptable to department in an activities program in a health care setting within the last 5 years.
- Education Requirements: Is a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist who is eligible for certification as CTRS or, is a qualified occupational therapist occupational therapy assistant or, holds a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Activity Director | Responsibilities:
- Supervises Activity personnel and Activities Programming.
- Educates and directs staff on timely reporting of suspected patient/resident abuses and reporting of suspected crimes under the Federal Elder Justice Act
- Ensures Patient Centered Care and Services. Practices, educates and directs staff on the following facility policies: Missing Resident Search, No Pass Zone, Responding to Alarm, End of Life Care, Complaints/Concerns of Residents/Visitors
- Participates in weekend Manager On Duty Program.
- Participates in the People First Program to promote positive recognition and morale.
- Submits monthly departmental reports to the Administrator.
- Reviews and revises as applicable all departmental policies annually.
- Meets with new residents within 96 hours of admission to assess his or her abilities, interests and socialization skills and acquaints him or her with the activity programs which are available.
- Maintains records including but not limited to: daily participation logs; monthly statistic and narrative reports, purchase/budget and Residents Council minutes. Also reviews and revises the Activities Department policy and procedure manual as needed.
- On a quarterly basis, re-evaluates and records the resident’s participation in a response on the “Activities Progress Notes” form: guidance will also be given to Activities staff in attending goals.
- Leads/assists with programs on a regular basis.
- Maintains liaison with community resources in order to provide services such as: religious, entertainment, specialized areas.
- Plans a monthly calendar of activities which will include programs for physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual challenges. The calendar is to be submitted to the Administrator. Responsible for the re-design and development of new activities and to re-evaluate programs on a timely basis.
- Prepares orders for equipment and supplies and makes purchases accordingly; assists in preparation of a yearly budget.
- Attends facility inservice programs, staff meetings, appropriate seminars/workshops and Comprehensive Resident Care Plan meetings.
- Assists in interviewing, selecting and evaluating Activities Personnel, volunteers, students; trains, assigns duties and supervises same.
- Discusses individual problems that affect job performance; tries to settle differences and/or refers them to a higher authority.
- Develops a schedule upon individual and group needs, interests and abilities considering the special needs of residents including but not limited to dementia, physical handicaps, visual, hearing and speech deficiencies and wheelchair or bed restrictions.
- Coordinates and incorporates the activities with the residents’ schedule of other services through discussions with the interdisciplinary team
- Develops and prepares, with the resident and the designated representative, as appropriate, a written plan for individual, group and independent activities in accordance with his or her needs, interests and abilities and in recognition of his or her mental and physical needs and interests as well as education and experience.
- Responsible for seeing that the department complies with the NYS Rules and Regulations and Federal Requirements of Participation, including directing monthly Resident Council meetings.
- Continues professional growth through reading current professional literature and attending professional meetings, seminars and workshops.
- Attends facility meetings and inservices, as required.
- Assures that the progressive disciplinary process has been initiated whenever an employee violates a standard of conduct.
