What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solar Development Project Manager position at GreenKey Solar?

Development Project Manager - Join Us on the Journey to Transform Our Nation’s Energy

Who We Are:

GreenKey Solar is a nimble, fast-growing renewable energy development firm. Our goal? To combat the climate crisis head-on by developing utility scale renewable energy projects in key growth markets. We are small but mighty, entrepreneurial, and fast-paced. We work collaboratively in a hybrid environment with offices in Portland and Bend, OR. For this position, we are looking for someone to work out of our Portland or Bend office. We are a team of doers, taking ownership of our work and proactively solving problems to achieve ambitious goals.

Who You Are:

You are not waiting for someone else to act—you take responsibility and initiative to get things done. You have a passion for renewable energy, are driven to tackle complex challenges, and see them through until they are done and done well. You thrive in an environment where creativity, problem-solving, and curiosity is paramount. You believe in learning continuously, growing with every experience, and driving solutions, not just identifying problems.

Your Mission:

As a Development Project Manager with GreenKey Solar, you will be a key player in our mission. You’ll work on our development team, taking projects across multiple markets from site control through the entirety of the development cycle to notice to proceed (NTP). You’ll manage communication and relationships with key stakeholders that include landowners, electric utilities, regulators, governmental agencies, and subcontractors, among others. Internally, you will collaborate with a team of project managers, land use permitters and project developers. You’ll help bring opportunities to life, driving the process with accountability, creativity, and ownership from start to finish. Your primary role will be to push projects forward, stay organized, and make sure that we are executing on the opportunities that we have in our pipeline.

What We Value:

  • Accountability & Ownership: We own our work and see it through. We take responsibility, admit when we're wrong, and make it right.
  • Creativity & Problem-Solving: We don't just point out problems; we solve them. We think outside the box and find the best solutions.
  • Curiosity & Growth-Oriented: We never stop learning. We ask questions, challenge assumptions, and drive for both personal and team growth.
  • Initiative/Self-Starter: We take action instead of waiting for others to act. We find solutions independently, identify opportunities, and keep pushing forward.
  • Integrity/Transparency: We do the right thing, even when it's hard. We are dependable, honest, and committed to our principles.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of Projects: Own projects from start to finish. You will help put together and submit interconnection applications for new projects and will also take ownership of projects that have already been submitted to the utility’s interconnection queue. You will be the in-house expert on the projects in your portfolio, and will be informed on everything from the site constraints, to title issues, to permitting timelines and interconnection.
  • Lease Negotiations: Project manage the lease negotiation process with the developer, landowner and landowner’s attorney (if applicable). You will drive the process and make sure that leases are signed in a timely manner by utilizing in-house legal resources to finalize lease language that is mutually agreeable.
  • Relationship Management: Once a project has been submitted for interconnection, you will take ownership of the landowner relationship for that project. You will make sure to keep the landowner informed as the project progresses, including site visits by subcontractors and landowner payments. Youwill build trust and rapport with the landowner throughout the project lifecycle through to closing documents.
  • Willingness to Travel: This position will require travel to relevant markets in order to support the team by attending public hearings, meeting landowners on the project site, and/or meeting with other key stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with utility partners, government bodies, community groups, and other stakeholders, ensuring that projects receive the necessary support to get approvals to reach NTP.
  • Organization and Drive: Stay organized while managing a high volume of projects. Establish and maintain good relationships with the team and know who on the team is responsible for what. Ensure that development items and tasks are getting pushed forward to successful completion.
  • Problem-Solving: Problems will inevitably arise! You have an inclination for finding solutions and strive to make things easier and more efficient for yourself and the team. You see the big picture and the reason behind the work, which drives you to successful project outcomes for the short and long term.

Qualifications:

We understand that no candidate will fit every requirement perfectly. If you believe you have the skills, drive, and growth mindset to thrive in this role, we encourage you to apply!

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • PMP Certification is desirable but not required.
  • 3 years of project management or coordination experience with growing responsibilities. Experience with managing large-scale renewable energy projects is a plus.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a self-starter attitude—someone who recognizes what needs to be done and quickly takes action.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on results.
  • High ethical standards, transparency, and a commitment to doing the right thing.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive Compensation: Commensurate with experience, plus bonus potential.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Company-paid medical, retirement match, flexible work schedule, and paid time off.
  • Growth Opportunity: Join a rapidly growing company at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution.
