Responsibilities
What You’ll Be Doing
May include but not limited to:
- Lead the implementation and enforcement of all water safety policies and procedures.
- Supervise and manage lifeguard staff to ensure consistent monitoring of members and guests in and around the swimming pool.
- Oversee swimmer safety, observing and responding to potentially hazardous situations.
- Enforce pool rules and address violations.
- Foster positive relationships with Club members by ensuring a welcoming and safe environment.
- Demonstrate exemplary behavior and best practices to set a standard for fellow lifeguards.
- Administer first aid and care to swimmers with minor injuries, such as small cuts and bruises.
- Assist in organizing and conducting lifeguard training sessions to maintain high skill levels among staff.
- Provide support for group and private swimming lessons by writing lesson plans, facilitating and teaching lessons, and ensuring effective instruction and safety. Oversee and provide guidance to other staff members teaching lessons to maintain high-quality instruction and a safe learning environment.
- Plan and oversee poolside activities and games.
- Monitor and maintain pool safety equipment and first aid supplies, reporting needed repairs or restocks to the Aquatics Manager and/or Supervisor.
- Ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of all pool facilities, including showers, bathrooms, pool decks, and the pool itself.
- Perform and oversee all required pre-opening and closing duties for the pool.
- Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, maintenance logs, and attendance sheets, as required by the Aquatics Manager.
- Act as a liaison between lifeguards and the Aquatics Manager, reporting unresolved issues and suggesting improvements to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
- Handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently, ensuring the safety of all pool users.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Manager to ensure smooth pool operations.
Qualifications
What You Need for this Position
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Current Lifeguard and CPR/AED certification (or willingness to certify/recertify )
- Experience instructing or coaching in the aquatics context
- Ability to swim laps and dive to the bottom of the pool
- Ability to receive Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
- Ability to receive American Red Cross Professional CPR/AED Certification
- Adequate knowledge of and training in pool chemistry, rescue and surveillance techniques, CPR/AED and blood-borne pathogens
- Participates in pool safety programs and risk management
- Employs only those methods and teaching techniques outlined and approved by the American Red Cross
- Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Pool hours: 6am - 8pm daily (exceptions for late night events)
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch.
- Continuous repetitive motions.
- Physical exertion over long periods of time.
- Work in a hot and humid environment.
- Push, pull and lift 50 pounds.
- Working conditions are often hot, humid, slippery and wet.
- Able to work in a busy, noisy environment.
- Able to tolerate the smell of chlorine and frequent exposure to cleaning agents.
