Responsibilities
What You’ll Be Doing
May include but not limited to:
- Implement all water safety policies and procedures. Supervise members and guests in and around the swimming pool.
- Supervise and observe swimmers to ensure their safety.
- Enforce rules of conduct at the pool.
- Administer care to swimmers’ minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises.
- Enforce rules of conduct at the pool.
- Assist in instructing private swimming lessons for members.
- Organize and monitor pool games; suggest pool-side games.
- Implements all pool safety equipment/first aid supplies and reports needed items.
- Maintain amenities and cleanliness of showers, bathrooms, pool/pool deck.
- Perform required pool pre-opening and closing duties.
- Maintain all necessary records determined by the Aquatics Manager.
- Attend all meetings as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
- Inform manager about unresolved member or guest disruptions that could cause a safety problem.
- Perform other appropriate tasks assigned by the Aquatics Manager.
Qualifications
What You Need for this Position
- PREFERED: Certifications and/or previous experience
- Some High School education required
- Ability to swim laps and dive to the bottom of the pool
- Ability to receive Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
- Ability to receive American Red Cross Professional CPR/AED Certification
- Adequate knowledge of and training in pool chemistry, rescue and surveillance techniques, CPR/AED and blood-borne pathogens
- Participates in pool safety programs and risk management
- Employs only those methods and teaching techniques outlined and approved by the American Red Cross
- Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Pool hours: 10am - 8pm daily (shifts starting at 6am for lessons)
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch.
- Continuous repetitive motions.
- Physical exertion over long periods of time.
- Push, pull and lift 50 pounds.
- Working conditions are often, hot, humid slippery and wet.
- Able to work in a busy, noisy environment.
- Able to tolerate the smell of chlorine and frequent exposure to cleaning agents.
