Brief Description:
A Chassis Engineer with GreenPower Motor Company is responsible for the development and modification of vehicle components from concept to production for medium to heavy duty electric vehicles. This position requires high level creative thinking, conceptualization, implementation skills and ability to thrive in a fast pace environment.
- Perform design engineering and release of vehicle components.
- Develop design models and engineering drawings for new vehicle products and components.
- Leverage team resources to complete vehicle design.
- Modify vehicle design to customer requirements.
- Prepare and modify travelers, BOM's, work instructions, process specifications and other documentation as required.
- Simulate vehicle and component under different profiles.
- Develop and perform vehicle testing procedures.
- Work cross functionally with Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, Procurement and production to develop a complete integrated product.
- Perform other job related tasks.
Responsibilities Include:
- Design: Create the chassis system, including steering and braking systems.
- Analyze: Evaluate suspension components and test data to improve performance.
- Test: Conduct tests on vehicle components to ensure they function properly and legally compliant with FMVSS requirements.
- Collaborate: Work with other engineers to integrate the chassis into the vehicle's design.
- Document: Create technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Investigate: Analyze drive failure and communicate with others to investigate issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with mechanical engineering or related field.
- 2 years working experience on medium to heavy duty vehicles.
- Familiar with hydraulic and air brake system.
- Familiar with power steering system.
- Experience with vehicle chassis and structure design.
- Experience with FEA is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Considerable physical activity with prolonged periods of sitting and computer work. May require handling of objects that can weigh up to 25 pounds.
Working Environment:
- Exposure to high-levels of noise.
- May be exposed to caustic fluids and fumes.
- Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots and hardhats.
- Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
- Position may operate a motor vehicle and may work outdoors.
