JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for processing and dispatching emergency, non-emergency and administrative calls for students, staff, faculty, visitors, law enforcement agencies, and emergency responders as assigned for first or second shift. Provides customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the public both in person and by phone. This position serves as backup for the Administrative Assistant position for administrative support for Campus safety officers and the public as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives and transmit telephone and radio emergency calls both emergency and non-emergency, monitor phone, computer, and radio traffic.
- Prioritize calls according to policy and procedure based on the nature of the call and dispatches officers to calls for service or assistance. Properly performs duties and adhere to rules, regulations, policies, and procedures using Dispatch software (CAD), Access Control, Video Management software (VMS), mass notification systems and other systems to perform relevant job tasks.
- Issues ID cards and vehicle parking documents and decals to the college community.
- Communicates with the college community, management, the public, peers, supervisors; interpret, explain, and answer operational and procedural questions, handle complaints from the college community, employees, and external customers; complete notifications to appropriate agency or person(s) as needed.
- Operates and monitors communications systems, basic troubleshooting for system issues.
- Performs basic quality assurance testing of various security systems and communications equipment.
- Ensures work quality in accordance with the office of Campus Safety Telecommunications’ mission and standards to ensure adherence to established goals, policies, and procedures, including Greensboro College Staff Policy and Procedures.
- To attend and successfully complete in-house and external training activities for Telecommunicators as directed by supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or incidental to work described herein.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Effective communication skills, problem solving ability, and the ability to work well with student, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in routine and emergency situations.
MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 21 years of age
- No misdemeanor convictions within the past 7 years, no felony convictions
- Computer literacy, especially MS Office, Outlook, and Excel
- Ability to interact effectively with campus community and external customers.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with computer Aided Dispatch systems as a call taker or call dispatching operator, i.e., 911 operator.
- Knowledge and/or experience in police radio communications, i.e., 10-code knowledge, computer software, and law enforcement practices.
