Job Description : Job Title : School Bus Aide (Special Needs)
Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Acceptable verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to address the needs of students with various disabilities.
The ability to participate in all required bus aide training and professional development.
Physical dexterity, coordination, mobility, visual acuity, retention and emotional health to perform the essential functions of the position including the ability to lift and restrain students of varying age levels and sizes.
Successfully pass the annual Special Needs Physical Performance Test.
Available for regular work schedule from 5 : 00 AM - 6 : 00 PM.

Special Needs Bus Supervisor
Job Goals : Provides physical and behavioral care for students with disabilities during transport to and from school and on extracurricular activities. This individual care / attention is precipitated by specific needs that cannot be managed from the driver's seat. Perform duties involved in the safe boarding, riding, and exiting of passengers.
Performance Responsibilities :
Assist the driver when requested or required
Assist students loading or unloading the bus (get off of the bus at every stop)
Actively assist the driver when backing the bus
Constantly monitor students' well-being and behavior during the route
Use a positive and calm demeanor to support safe behaviors for students with disabilities
Interact with students during the route
Preform any student Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) requirements
Respond appropriately to students' needs during the route and notify the driver if an emergency exists
Be familiar with the route in order to assist a substitute or new driver
Assist the driver in keeping the bus clean
Store and secure all student equipment that is to be transported
Inspect special needs equipment for safe transport
Secure special needs students and / or equipment (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, safety seats, safety vest etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students
Provide First Aid as trained as required by the situation
Evacuate the students from the bus in an emergency and evacuation drills
Sit where needed on the bus to monitor the students, but not in the front seat
Prepare documentation (e.g. incident reports, student count, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and / or conveying information
Communicate with driver / sub driver daily regarding student help plans, routing, and evacuation plans
Assume other responsible job-related duties as assigned by the driver or supervisors
Terms of Employment :
Nine (9) months on the bus aide salary schedule
Evaluation :
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy
