Reports To : Director of Secondary Academic Support

Position Overview : The Title I Academic Specialist ELA 6-12 will support the district's efforts to increase student achievement on the SC Ready ELA assessment for grades 6-8 and the English II End-of-Course (EOC) exam. The specialist will work collaboratively with school administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers to implement high-quality ELA instruction aligned with the 2024 South Carolina College- and Career-Ready ELA Standards.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum and Support

  • Ensure the implementation, promotion, and delivery of Greenville County School District's 6-12 ELA Curriculum as aligned to State College and Career Readiness Standards.
  • Assist in articulating the vertical and horizontal curriculum for the district in the area of English Language Arts.
  • Engage teachers in collaborative planning, research, and curriculum development using best practices in support of the district's 6-12 English Language Arts Program.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor district-level curriculum maps, pacing guides, and instructional resources.
  • Provide coaching and job-embedded professional development for teachers and instructional leaders.
  • Support the integration of high-impact teaching strategies that promote student engagement and deep learning.
  • Recommend the adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs related to 6- 12 English Language Arts.

Professional Development

  • Plan and deliver professional learning sessions on effective ELA instruction, assessment strategies, and data analysis.
  • Lead professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on improving student outcomes in ELA.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyze student performance data to identify areas of need and inform instructional practices; direct or re-direct current instructional practices for continued improvement in student achievement.
  • Collaborate with school teams to create action plans for improving ELA achievement.
  • Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with district and school leaders to align instructional practices with district goals.
  • Maintain active participation with stakeholders, including administrators and teachers, in curriculum, instruction, and assessment at regional, state, and national levels to ensure compliance with all regulations and mandates.
  • Program Management

  • Ensure compliance with Title I program requirements related to ELA instruction.
  • Assist in the budget preparation for 6-12 ELA as needed.
  • Support the implementation of evidence-based intervention programs.
  • Support the implementation and integration of instructional technology.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities related to the support of 6-12 ELA instruction as assigned by the Director of Secondary Support, in conjunction with the site-based principal.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • At least 3 years' administrative and / or instructional coach experience.
  • Current South Carolina teaching certification in English-Language Arts (or eligibility to obtain certification).
  • At least five years of teaching experience in secondary ELA, with proven experience in English 2.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead professional development and provide instructional coaching.
  • Strong knowledge of disciplinary literacy strategies.
  • Ability to interpret data for program improvements.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Successful experience with evaluating program effectiveness.
