GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
In this challenging role, you will be supporting the CUL-Culinary department at Greenville Technical College. The job purpose is to provide exemplary classroom instruction for students enrolled in various Hospitality and Culinary courses offered by the Culinary program using a broad spectrum of methods. In addition, the adjunct faculty member will maintain student records and evaluate student progress appropriate for each course and perform administrative duties as assigned. Duties may include any or all of the following.
Teaching Preparation
Prepare for instruction of the classes assigned by the department head. Insure that preparation and planning relate to the course syllabus provided by the department head, with particular attention to the sections covering learning objectives, plan of instruction, and grading policies. Prepare, select, or request appropriate audio-visual material and/or instructional aids. Coordinate with other faculty teaching the same course and with faculty teaching sequential courses.
Teaching all program courses
Distribute, review, and explain updated syllabus for each class. Present instruction for classes assigned by the department head and follow syllabus guidelines. Introduce new material, revise instructional innovation where appropriate. Adapt material and methods to meet individual student needs when practical.
Teaching Management
Confirm that students have necessary prerequisites for course entry. Maintain records of attendance, grades, etc. Maintain office hours or announce availability in person or by phone to enable students to gain assistance when needed. Submit final grade reports within the stated deadline each term. Perform administrative duties as designated by the department head. Assist with registration and recruitment as designated by the department head. Participate in course outcomes data collection.
Teaching Evaluation
Provide regular evaluation and feedback. Relate student evaluation activities to objectives. Grade students in accordance with policy published in course syllabus on a weekly basis.
Personal & Professional Development
Exhibit effective oral and written skills. Maintain professional relationship with students. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues. Gain familiarity with varied teaching strategies. Remain current on theories and practices related to subject field through current literature, workshops, seminars, demonstrations, or field experience. Participate, if possible, in College sponsored staff development activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimal supervision will be provided. Work as a team with other instructors in the department as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree with a major in culinary arts, hospitality education, or a related field or an associate degree with a major in culinary arts, hospitality education or a related field and demonstrated competencies in the hospitality field (such as credentials equivalent to any ACF certification at a chef level); a minimum of two (2) years or experience as a chef and/or two years teaching experience in an ACF Certified College Level Program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires knowledge and skills in Hospitality/Tourism management and Culinary operations. Teaching assignments for the Hospitality program will require specific education and experience in the particular discipline. Many require course-specific capabilities acquired by completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a hospitality-related or tourism management field and three (3) years of relevant experience. A Masters degree, teaching experience, and three (3) years of relevant experience is preferred.
