JOB SUMMARY
Provides leadership for and participates in the maintenance and protection of Greenville Water right-of-way passages, fire lane roads and general grounds.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work; maintains standards; coordinates activities and allocates personnel; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; reviews the work for completeness and accuracy;
- Assists in the selection of new team members as requested
- Supervises and participates in Greenville Water right-of-way, fire lane roads and grounds maintenance operations.
- Ensures that crew members are following all safety rules and have all necessary safety equipment.
- Trains new team members; answers questions; provides advice and assistance as needed.
- Inspects water line right-of-ways for leaks and investigates R.O.W. encroachment issues as needed.
- Supervises and performs R.O.W. and Grounds maintenance work as required, including but not limited to removing trees, vegetation and debris from right-of-way passages, applying pesticides/herbicides, mowing and trimming grass at tank sites, etc.
- Builds and maintains fire brake roads; fights forest fires as needed.
- Hauls rock, soil, debris, equipment, materials, etc., as needed to and from work sites.
- Performs general building maintenance work as required, including routine plumbing, carpentry, roofing, sandblasting, etc.
- Provides consistent leadership and participates in the maintenance of positive customer relations.
- Maintains and performs minor repairs to assigned equipment.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including vehicle/gas records, maintenance reports, blueprints, safety training schedules and materials, attendance records, accident reports, purchase orders, performance appraisals, budget recommendations, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors and employees, co-workers, subordinates, engineers, City/County personnel, other government agencies, property owners, customers, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Cleans water storage tanks.
- Assists other division crews as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- On call rotation as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by three (3) years of experience in right of way maintenance or related field is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must obtain and maintain a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License. Must obtain and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
