The School Counselor reports to the Head of School.
SCHOOL COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The school counselor will work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, faculty, and administration to provide a Catholic-based social-emotional learning environment and promote specific skills necessary for individual children to become good citizens who are academically successful.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a resource for students, faculty/staff, and families related to students ' social and emotional concerns
- Consult with students, faculty/staff, and families on an as-needed basis related to students '
social and emotional concerns
- Provide on-site social-emotional therapy sessions to students (preschool to 8th grade)
- Provide individual, group, and collateral family therapy
- Provide in-classroom social-emotional program to all grades (preschool to middle school)
- Communicate and support teachers in understanding each learner 's social-emotional strengths and needs
- Engage and collaborate with the head of school, dean of students, director of special services, teachers, and families
- Participate in team meetings related to students' social-emotional needs
- Engage and communicate with outside providers related to specific students' needs and issues
- Make referrals when necessary to outside providers
- Provide crisis intervention when necessary
- Develop and implement treatment plans
- Maintain and update clinical records
- Complete progress notes and written documentation per regulatory guidelines
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities provided
- Attend full faculty meetings
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Education:
Master’s degree preferred or 4-year degree in counseling, therapy or related field
Certification:
Must hold valid certification as a school counselor or therapist in Connecticut
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $77,000.00 per year
