Your Role as an ELA/Special Education Teacher
- Provide Classroom Support – Create a positive and engaging learning space where every student feels supported and can thrive. Work closely with paraprofessionals and support staff to build an inclusive environment that fosters academic and social success.
- Monitor & Track Student Progress – Develop and manage Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs. Track and assess student development, making necessary adjustments to ensure continued progress and success.
- Support Self-Help Skills – Guide students in developing independence by providing personalized support in adapting to daily learning tasks and fostering confidence in their abilities.
- Ensure a Safe Learning Environment – Manage challenging behaviors by implementing behavior support plans and using de-escalation techniques and calming strategies to promote a structured and supportive setting.
- Collaborate with Teachers & Families – Work closely with parents, educators, and support staff to ensure consistent, individualized support for each student. Engage in ongoing communication to align strategies and interventions for student success.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, Literature, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Valid Connecticut state endorsement 165-Special Education: Comprehensive, grades K-12 or Valid Connecticut state endorsement 015: English 7-12 or eligibility for certification in the state of Connecticut.
- Strong communication skills for effectively engaging with students, parents, and staff.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
- Passion for Special Education, demonstrated by patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students with special needs succeed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, enthusiastic style to fit with our small-team environment.
