Summary of Duties: The purchasing specialist negotiates vendor terms, prices and schedules delivery using knowledge of budget and schedule requirements. Responsible for purchasing and distributing materials, equipment, and supplies in the organization by performing the following duties personally or through delegation. This position reports directly to the Inventory Control Manager.

- Plans, organizes, and controls activities related to the procurement function with MRP.
- Organizes the work of the tool crib and central supply personnel engaged in receiving, issuing, delivering supplies and equipment.
- Prepares instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures.
- Develops a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilizes appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery and service.
- Implements, manages and monitors procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements.
- Recruits and maintains suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a competitive price, while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
- Prepares and issues purchase orders.
- Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
- Arranges for disposal of surplus materials.
- Assist in performing cycle counts, month-end inventories, and annual physical inventories.
- Assist department management with other duties or special projects when assigned or as time allows.
- Follow all required safety guidelines.
- Bachelor's degree; or associate's degree and 2 years of experience in a purchasing or purchasing support role; or 4 years' experience in a purchasing or purchasing support role.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proficient in keyboarding, data entry, and office equipment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to organize and prioritize.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must maintain adequate attendance, safety, and job performance according to company policies and standards.
- Must be able to stay in a stationary or seated position at least 50% of the time.
- This job will require some standing, stooping, and bending to complete tasks related to inventories, and gathering information on materials for customer inquiries and/or communications.
