Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Histotechnologist (HT) to join our team at the White River Junction VA Medical Center. The selected candidate will be responsible for processing tissue specimens, assisting pathologists, and ensuring accurate diagnostic results. Key responsibilities include:
- Grossing, accessioning, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping tissue specimens
- Preparing special stains as requested by pathologists
- Assisting with surgical and frozen section procedures, as well as autopsies
- Processing specimens using specialized equipment and techniques
- Ensuring proper identification of patients and specimens to maintain accuracy and safety
- Maintaining the integrity of electronic and paper patient records
- Conducting quality control (QC) testing, troubleshooting, and documentation
- Providing patient-centered care with professionalism to ensure high-quality service
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent Histology and Cytology experience
- Technical proficiency in histological procedures, including specimen processing and staining
- Strong communication skills, including fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Ability to verify ongoing competency, skills, and certifications upon request
Schedule:
Shifts vary and may include day, evening, and night shifts. Weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required, but on-call or standby duties are not necessary.
