About Us: Grimes County Animal Rescue was established as a non-profit corporation for the purpose of constructing and running an animal shelter to serve the residents of Grimes County, Texas. Our board is passionate about finding a solution for the current stray dog and cat situation that Grimes County faces.
Grimes County Animal Rescue is seeking a motivated and committed Kennel Technician to assist with daily animal care, basic grooming, oversee kennel cleaning and sanitation, and assist shelter staff and volunteers with animal handling tasks as needed. This position will require someone who is comfortable with the level of cleaning required, a self-starter, and who is able to perform well in a fast-paced environment.
Position: Kennel Technician
Reports To: Animal Shelter Manager
Basic Purpose/Position Summary: The animal shelter kennel technician will maintain a safe and healthy environment for the animals by performing daily cleaning tasks, assessing animals for ailments, notating which animals need attention, assisting with moving dogs to play yards and back to kennels for daily enrichment and cleaning purposes, and ensure that the shelter remains clean at all times. The kennel technician will also be responsible for administering daily medications to the animals that are scheduled to receive them, and to assist with vaccinations and de-worming treatments.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
The Animal Shelter Kennel Technician will be responsible for cleaning the shelter day-to-day and maintaining cleanliness and general care in the kennel portion of the shelter, including: o Ensuring the health and safety of all animals in the shelter
▪ Following proper animal handling protocols and procedures in accordance with established with Standard Operating Procedures
▪ Cleaning of kennel area, cat area, and clinic
▪ Daily feeding and ensuring that animals are being fed appropriately
▪ Observing animals for sickness and/or injury
▪ Daily medication administration
▪ Maintaining clear and concise records o Creating an open and welcoming environment for customers and community members
▪ Supporting, and encouraging volunteers that are at the shelter to assist in a welcoming, appreciative, and fun manner
▪ Professional and considerate communications in difficult/frustrating situations
▪ Representing the shelter to the community in a positive light
Qualifications
Prior experience in a veterinary office or animal shelter preferred.
Able to lift 50 pounds.
