Medical Billing Specialist (Ophthalmology)
Grin Eye Care is a locally owned Ophthalmology Practice with locations in Olathe, KS, Leawood, KS, and Brookside, MO. We have been meeting the ophthalmologic needs of our clients since 1989. Grin Eye Care is seeking highly qualified applicants to join our billing team.

JOB SUMMARY:
- The Billing Specialist, a key position in the Revenue Cycle, manages the claims process, including accurate and timely claim creation, follow-up and correspondence with providers, insurance inquiries/correspondence. This position is responsible for assisting in the clarification and development of process improvements and inquiries, assure payments related to patient services from all sources are recorded and reconciled timely in order to maximize revenues. Other important duties include patient collections, answering patient questions about billing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following as well as other duties
and responsibilities that may be assigned:
- Charge entry, claims submissions, payment posting, accounts receivable follow-up, and reimbursement management
- Analyze billing and claims for accuracy and completeness; submit claims to proper insurance entities and follow up on any issues
- Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount
- Posts adjustments, transfer of responsibility and refunds, as necessary
- Calling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments
- Identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurances
- Prepare and submits clean claims to third party payers either electronically or by paper
- Maintain relationship with clearinghouse, including appropriate follow-up with support issues
- Investigate and appeal denied claims
- Setting up patient payment plans and work collection accounts
- Handles patient inquiries and answers questions from staff and insurance companies
- Other duties as assigned by the CFO
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 years' experience in ophthalmology/optometry medical billing/collection practices and basic accounting principles required
- Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems, and correct errors, and to develop processes that eliminate redundancy
- Ability to work under minimum supervision and demonstrate strong initiative
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant; make prompt and accurate judgments regarding AR, billing and other office duties
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients, organizations, and the public
- Tolerant of frequent interruptions and distractions from patients, physicians and staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Knowledge of medical terminology with CPT and ICD-10 coding knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong data entry skills
- Highly organized, detail oriented, motivated, and service driven
Must have the ability to sit at a desk for 70%-90% of the workday in a general office environment
