Buyer II

JOB DIMENSIONS:
Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, purchases materials, supplies, and services at most favorable costs and terms consistent with standards and manufacturing schedules with an emphasis on strategic sourcing to maintain adequate inventory levels of materials; and performs related duties as required.
Reports to:
Purchasing Manager
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Solicit, review, and negotiate quotes from vendors for standard and non-standard materials to reflect the greatest overall value and lowest total cost;
Issue, and revise purchase orders to ensure accuracy;
Audit purchase orders against invoices to ensure that accuracy of materials ordered and received when there are discrepancies and resolve the issue;
Collaborate with Sr. Buyer with global and domestic strategic sourcing initiatives and select reliable sources;
Establish and maintain working relationships with suppliers and end users;
Prepare bid request documents, evaluate responses and determine final supplier selection;
Initiate Engineering Change Orders as needed for approval of products or material substitutions;
Works closely with Sr. Buyer with monitoring suppliers to ensure on time delivery of product and quality requirements are met;
Coordinate delivery and pick-up of company materials;
Works closely with accounting, sales, engineering, production, and quality departments, for continuous improvement and cost reductions;
Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
High school graduation and 3-5 years’ experience, training and/or certification in purchasing methods and procedures, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Significant experience with MRO buying and ERP System knowledge in a manufacturing environment. Purchasing and business classes a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of purchasing, receiving and inventory procedures;
Knowledge of basic math;
Skilled in operation of computer and multi-function machines (copier, scanner, printer);
Ability to analyze data and report results using computer software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook;
Ability to organize and prioritize own work;
Ability to read and interpret specifications and material orders;
Ability to compile and maintain accurate work records;
Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others, including vendors and various departmental representatives;
Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
Ability to analyze and solve purchasing problems; and
Ability to procure materials at most cost-effective rates.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to bend, squat, stretch, reach and lift office materials weighing up to 20 pounds, and spend much of the day sitting/working on a computer;
Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;
Most work tasks are performed indoors where temperature is moderate and controlled by office environment systems;
Ability to work (sit and/or stand) at a desk for the majority of the work day; walking and/or standing may be required for the remainder of the work day. Length of time performing these physical requirements may vary from day to day and task to task;
Requires grasping, writing, sitting, standing, walking, repetitive motions, pulling, pushing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity;
Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, photocopiers and other office equipment as applicable; and
Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 15 lbs;
