THE OPPORTUNITY
Group One Trading is looking to hire a full-time Application Support Specialist who is passionate about all aspects of user support, including monitoring, actively engaging end-users, troubleshooting, and providing a high level of customer service. In this hands-on, front-line support role on our Application Support Team, we desire a candidate with strong problem-solving, customer-service, critical thinking, and communication skills who can collaborate across functional groups.

THE CHALLENGE
Our proprietary trading platform consists of an information-dense user interface, on top of a high-throughput distributed architecture, with interfaces to multiple electronic marketplaces for market data and trading. The electronic trading landscape is constantly evolving, and to continue enhancing our proprietary trading platform, we need talented technologists to help us iterate and innovate our infrastructure. Our system is proprietary, large, and multi-platform, so regardless of your current experience, there will be a lot of learning involved in this position as an Application Support Specialist.
THE SKILLSET
A broad, multi-platform skill set is what we look for, but there will be plenty of learning opportunities no matter how many of these skills you bring in with you. We also encourage applicants with various levels of technical backgrounds to apply, such as Dev-Ops or Software Development experience. Our ideal Application Support Specialist has:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a technical role
- Experience with system monitoring tools & techniques
- Deep technical troubleshooting skills of proprietary software that runs on Windows Servers
- Passionate about learning trading concepts, financial instruments, and market data feeds
- Proactive problem-solving mindset, with the ability to suggest improvements and enhancements to systems and processes
- Ability to effectively document support processes, production issues in JIRA, third-party software usage, and help contribute to and maintain wiki-based documentation
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with developers, users, and cross-functional teams
Experience with scripting/programming languages and tools like Python, C#, or PowerShell would be a plus! Are you self-motivated and detail-oriented? WHAT TO EXPECT AS AN APPLICATION SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Within 1 month, you complete your initial orientation as well as become familiar with our environment, our infrastructure, and our business. You begin a comprehensive, cross-functional training plan to learn more about every aspect of our firm.
Within 3 months, you will be proficient in system monitoring, proactively identifying potential issues in the proprietary trading system and responding effectively to incidents. You will study for and obtain a Series 57 Securities Trader Representative qualification, enabling you to support our most sensitive trading components. You will begin to gain confidence in performing software maintenance tasks, troubleshooting basic networking issues, and providing user computer setup support. Additionally, your collaborative skills and proactive problem-solving approach will be evident as you actively engage with teams, contribute to documentation efforts, and propose improvements to enhance system stability and performance.
Within 6 months, you will independently monitor and maintain the proprietary trading system, all while demonstrating a deep understanding of its details. You will have gained proficiency in troubleshooting complex issues and provide timely and effective support to users. Additionally, you will begin to take on a leadership role in collaborative efforts, contributing significantly to proposing system enhancements, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
