Archaeological Principal Investigator


Grouse Mountain Environmental Consultants is seeking an archaeological Principal Investigator to join our team. As part of our team, you will work closely with our clients in the oil and gas industry, renewable energy industry, and government agencies across the western United States providing regulatory compliance support and developing solutions for environmental compliance and remediation programs.


Responsibilities:

• Communicate with Grouse Mountain Project Managers, Program Leads, and project proponents to ensure project needs are being met and cultural resources are understood.

• Coordinate and develop/manage/track project scopes, budgets, and schedules.

• Work independently and resolve project challenges with minimal supervision.

• Supervise junior staff, communicate effectively, and work closely with fellow employees.

• Develop, direct, and participate in all types of archaeological investigations including:

o Create research designs, work plans, lead, and conduct fieldwork for pedestrian survey, shovel testing, site testing, and construction monitoring projects.

o Prepare and review cultural resource results reports, cultural property forms, data collection and compilation, and NRHP eligibility evaluations.

o Perform technical and copy editing for cultural resource submittals.

o Evaluate and make recommendations regarding NRHP eligibility and treatment of, as well as project effects to cultural resources.

o Assess significance and identify appropriate National Register criteria of eligibility by applying aspects of integrity.


Minimum Requirements:

• MA or MS in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field (must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards). 

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising and managing projects, junior staff, and preparing technical reports.

• Ability to qualify at a supervisory level for the state (WY, CO) and federal archaeological permits.

• Knowledge and experience in the High Plains and Great Basin prehistory and/or history archaeological method and theory, and applicable federal, state laws, as well as local regulations and compliance requirements.

• Experience successfully directing all phases of cultural resource investigation.

• Effective communication skills both written and orally.

• Provide quality control for all deliverables.

• Ability to travel out of town, possess a clean and valid driver’s license, and the ability to safely operate a UTV or four-wheel drive vehicle on backcountry roads.

• Ability to generate, organize, and maintain accurate field records that meet state and federal standards and guidelines.
