Engineering Manager - Overhead Power Transmission - St. Louis, Missouri
Gryphon Oakwood are looking for an Engineering Manager to join an exciting Power Engineering contractor to be based in St. Louis, MI. The position falls within the transmission department of the organization. The Engineering Manager will be overseeing the engineering team to complete projects that support utility customers. They will work with in-house and client engineers and designers.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the entire project execution process by developing innovative design engineering solutions, from initial concepts to final deliverables, and ensuring smooth and safe construction operations.
- Lead a collaborative team to understand client needs, produce high-quality deliverables, and provide regular project updates.
- Establish and maintain design criteria that adhere to industry, company, and client standards.
- Direct the creation of computer models for overhead electric transmission lines and structures using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and TOWER.
- Oversee the compilation of drawings, specifications, and design criteria for the procurement of tubular steel structures, lattice towers, and transmission line hardware.
- Verify vendor-supplied calculations and drawings for compliance with project requirements.
- Manage the development of comprehensive construction packages for internal and external construction teams, including plan & profiles, staking sheets, stringing tables, bill of materials, structure details, phasing drawings, foundation drawings, and installation specifications.
- Provide expert design oversight and quality reviews for complex drawing packages to ensure adherence to client and code requirements.
- Promote a culture of design excellence and continuous improvement within the team.
- Present findings to management, analyze PLS-CADD reports, develop design aids, and create reports using Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Yammer).
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
- At least 10 years’ experience designing and engineering transmission lines between 69kV and 345kV
- Professional Engineering (PE) License
- Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole; PLS TOWER experience
- Travel in the U.S. and internationally (5-15%)
