What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer Student Intern position at GS Engineering?
The Student Intern’s purpose is to gain exposure and experience in an engineering work environment by supporting engineering activities for both Client projects and internal efforts primarily through the development of engineering data, documentation and drawings. Student Interns may be required to perform tasks within other disciplines to support the organization (e.g. test or support of prototype/product builds).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Student Intern is responsible for the following tasks, and others as assigned:
- Acquire knowledge of various software packages through training modules, videos and engineers on staff.
- Generates engineering data, documents, and drawings using a variety of software applications that vary based on position and tasking.
- Primarily works as part of a project team under the direction of an Engineer or Project Manager.
- Provides input and recommendations for the development of solutions to technical problems and independently solves technical problems of moderate complexity ensuring compliance with requirements.
- Analyzes and interprets design specifications, drawings, documentation, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
- Travel may be required at times, based on availability with school schedule.
- Participates in the support and continual improvement of GS Engineering’s Quality Management System.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Technical: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables and requirements in situations where only limited standardization exists. Meet program assignment expectations and client requirements.
Cost: Be aware of and work to project budgets. Maintain communication with Supervisor and Project Managers to ensure continuity of workload.
Quality: Deliver designs, drawings, and other documents that meet client expectations for quality and timing.
QUALIFICATIONS / ATTRIBUTES:
- Working towards an Associates or Bachelors degree in a relevant field required, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- 0-2 years’ experience with engineering and/or technical knowledge required.
- 1-2 years’ industry experience preferred.
- Must demonstrate enthusiasm for excellence in technical execution and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident able to obtain a security clearance from the Department of Defense upon hiring.
