Department Description

The site automation department is responsible for cybersecurity, networking, data visualization, and automation / controls for manufacturing, packaging and facilities equipment. The Intern will help deliver aspects of our automation strategy and capital plan to support / upgrade equipment and support manufacturing operations.

Job Description

This opportunity will allow the chosen candidate to implement and support projects and systems within the site Automation Strategy and provide Automation support (Pharmaceutical Fill/Finish/Packaging) to the Zebulon site within a multi-disciplinary and extended team of Automation, Instrumentation, IT, control engineers, external contractors, and consultants. In addition, they will successfully deliver compliant (financial, regulatory (e.g. cGMPs), GAMP) instrumentation, automation, business and control systems for new and existing pharmaceutical facilities, Building Management Systems, and Environmental Monitoring Systems at Zebulon.

• Develop a working knowledge of current automation technologies in the following disciplines: Field Instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, Historians, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Virtualization and Integration Technologies – middleware, OPC, XML.
• Help deliver elements of the sites automation projects and gain a good understanding of project management skills: scope, cost, quality and time.
• Develop a working knowledge and participate in safety assessments where appropriate. Develop a working knowledge of, and adherence to, role related GSK policies, procedures and local codes.
• Interface and build partnerships with key site functions including Production, Technical, Planning, Engineering and Quality to ensure technology designs deliver agreed benefits.
• Ensure performance management systems are in-use (standard work) to manage individual priorities and responsibilities.
• Provide training for onsite Users / Engineers in Automation technologies and applications.
• Provide support for the Automation systems to maintain the sites production requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelors (rising Juniors, Seniors, or recently graduated) or Masters degree in a Science or Engineering related discipline: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
• Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12-week internship cycle (June - August 2025).
• Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Effective and clear communication skills, especially when dealing with technical issues.
• Troubleshooting abilities.
• Understanding of electrical circuits.
• Proficient computer skills on multiple operating systems: Windows Administration, Server/Client Architecture, Application Troubleshooting.

Benefits

• While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position. 
• GSK Interns and Co-ops are offered a competitive hourly pay rate and benefits. Please note, benefits eligibility determined the month following date of hire.

• This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including skills, competencies, experience, educational degree obtained, location and/or being pursued and other job-related factors permitted by law.

  In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.

  • Pay Rate Range: $21/hr to $40/hr
