SUMMARY – CREW CHIEF
The selected individual will perform Topographic Surveys, Boundary Surveys, As Built Surveys, and Route Surveys. Duties will include but are not limited to.
Utilizing GPS, total station, level, and 3D laser scanners in the performance of a survey. Individuals may also assist and support data processing in the office. Software to be utilized will include AutoCAD Civil3D, Bentley – MicroStation, Leica Infinity, Leica Cyclone and a variety of other design and visualization tools.
This position is anticipated to be 100% field, unless directed by supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - (project specific) include the following:
1. Perform Topographic and Boundary Surveys, As Built Surveys, and Route Surveys.
2. Field calculations and sketching.
3. Supervision and responsibility for safety of survey crew members.
4. Willingness to work overtime (longer than an 8-hour shift), including nights and/or weekends if required.
5. Occasional out-of-town assignments with overnight stays. Road trips outside New Jersey may also be required.
6. Experienced with the use of Robotic Total Station, GPS (Static and RTK), 3D Laser Scanners.
7. Office experience a plus - Utilize AutoCAD Civil3D to create base mapping and survey drawings from field data collected with GPS, total station or 3D laser scanner and other sources.
8. Perform and/or coordinate deed searches and property owner listing.
9. Review deeds, tax maps and filed maps.
10. Develop property line mosaics for use with Right-Of-Way Plans.
11. Take responsibility for equipment and vehicles.
12. Work independently or as part of a two-person or three-person survey crew.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - (non-project specific) include the following:
1. Work with appropriate GTS Staff to understand the scope of work, schedule, budget, and other project instructions and responsibilities.
2. Work with appropriate GTS Staff to determine intent and contents of each deliverable package.
3. Work independently to complete assignments within budget and schedule: review deliverables for completeness, constructability, and coordination with other features.
4. Follow GTS Quality Assurance procedures.
5. Individuals must be able to utilize field equipment in case independent work arises.
6. Keep detail field notes, sketches, records and reports.
7. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 5 years of experience in field surveying, utilizing Total Stations with data collectors and electronic levels. 1 year of office experience, working with property documents, and developing deed mosaics.
(Experience with a Robotic Total Station and 3d Laser Scanner is a plus).
1. Basic Computer skills.
2. Office experience a Plus - processing of survey data with AutoCAD Civil3D, Leica Infinity and Leica Cyclone.
3. Individuals must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
4. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
5. Flexibility to change tasks and perform simultaneous tasks (multi-tasking).
6. You must possess a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
7. Must be willing and able to travel to project sites, client’s offices, and other GTS offices to complete work, if required.
8. Driving more than 2 hours at a time may be necessary for certain project locations.
9. Projects could be local, regional, national, or international.
10. Individuals must be physically able to work outdoors in all terrain and weather conditions.
11. Individuals must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
12. Climb ladders and/or stairs. Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
5 – 7 years experience.
Qualifications
- Proficient in GPS technology and land surveying techniques
- Experience with 3D scanning and MicroStation software
- Strong background in civil engineering principles
- Familiarity with GIS applications and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of ALTA surveys and construction data collection
- Solid understanding of trigonometry and geometry as applied to surveying
- Office experience with project management and documentation
