What’s the Role?
Guaranteed Rate is building a winning team to reinvent the mortgage experience through innovation, technology and a relentless focus on providing industry-leading mortgage products and superlative customer service. The Counsel, Compensation will embrace these efforts by supporting the Guaranteed Rate legal, licensing and compliance teams on contract, compensation, regulatory and employment matters and other special projects. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, able to work independently, solve problems creatively, prioritize relentlessly, exercise business judgment soundly, and operate with a sense of urgency to get things done.
Due to the Company’s growth and the promotion of current staff into other roles within the Company’s Legal Department, we’re looking to add to our group of attorneys that draft the compensation plans for the licensed sales staff. These agreements are highly regulated and often litigated, requiring attorneys skilled in both compliance and contract law. Upward advancement within the Company’s Legal Department is available after 2-3 years to someone who can learn what we do and produce in the role at a high level.
Responsibilities:
Learn the Loan Officer Compensation Rule of the Dodd Frank Act and how to properly draft compensation plans for the Company’s licensed sales staff from the group’s current team members.
Advise business management on various contract, compensation and regulatory issues.
Work with the Company’s business operations, finance, human resources, compliance, and licensing departments with respect to compensation matters.
Assist the legal department with overflow work as necessary.
Qualifications:
A licensed attorney admitted to a state bar in the United States
Experience with employment matters and/or regulatory issues preferred.
Familiarity with the mortgage industry and the Loan Officer Compensation Rule, 12 CFR § 1026.36(d)-(e) is highly desired.
Ability to complete projects under tight timelines.
Willingness to learn the business and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Self-motivated with strong work ethic.
Clear, concise and persuasive oral and written communication skills.
Solid business acumen with ability to work collaboratively and cross functionally.
Proven track record of multi-tasking and working under a heavy workload with changing priorities.
