Job Title: Governance Professional
Reporting to: Head of School Governance
Location: Remote/hybrid working (must be able to attend in-person meetings at schools)
Role term: Permanent
Hours: Full Time
Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 per annum
Role purpose
We are looking for an experienced governance professional to join our growing team. The ideal candidate would take ownership of several local governing bodies in our Trust and provide them with first-class support. Our Trust of six schools is part of a wider family of schools including academies, maintained, primary, secondary, selective, and single sex schools.
Role Responsibilities
Advice and guidance
▪ Build strong relationships with Heads and Chairs of all our schools.
▪ Provide Chairs of governing bodies with advice and support on all governance issues, consulting the Head of School Governance as necessary.
▪ Keep governors informed about training & development opportunities.
▪ Support with governing body self-evaluation.
Clerking
▪ Prepare agendas in liaison with the Head of School Governance, the Headteacher and the Chair.
▪ Collate and circulate documents in advance of each meeting.
▪ Attend meetings, either in person or virtually as necessary, and record attendance, take detailed minutes and note specific actions.
▪ Advise on conflicts of interest, and how to manage and avoid these.
▪ Challenge the board if concerned about any issue relating to the conduct of a meeting.
▪ Create an actions log, recording to whom the actions is delegated, and the timeframes involved.
▪ Prepare the first draft of the minutes and action log promptly.
▪ Incorporate amendments and corrections for the submission of the final approved draft to the Head of School Governance.
Other
▪ Maintain governing body membership registers and ensure our database information is up to date.
▪ Clerk extraordinary meetings as they arise, or panel hearings (e.g. exclusions and complaints).
▪ Advise on parent and staff governor elections.
▪ Support the governor induction process.
▪ Contribute to governor training as appropriate.
