- Perform precise laser etching processes to include serial numbers and identifying information as indicated on paperwork.
- Gather relevant information from tool drawings and shop routings to ensure accuracy and conformance to our ISO requirement
- Ensure etching is accurate, consistent, and conforms to customer and company specifications.
- Set up and operate abrasive blasting equipment to clean PCD tools, removing debris and oxidation without damaging the material.
- Maintain blasting media (glass beads) for PCD materials, ensuring efficient material removal and surface enhancement.
- Monitor blasting parameters to maintain optimal performance and avoid tool damage or uneven surface finishing.
- Set up and operate precision surface grinders to refine PCD tool geometries, ensuring tight tolerances and smooth finishes.
- Grind PCD inserts to achieve the desired geometry and surface finish.
- Inspect and measure tool dimensions regularly to verify that grinding meets drawing specifications and quality standards.
- Use diamond grinding wheels suited for carbide materials to ensure effective cutting without degrading the tools.
- Continuously inspect and test finished tools for defects, ensuring they meet the required standards and precision.
- Utilize specialized measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, gauges) to check for dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
- Ensure that PCD tools are free from imperfections that could affect tool performance or longevity.
- Maintain and clean abrasive blasting, etching, and grinding equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform basic repairs or coordinate with maintenance teams for more complex fixes.
- Keep detailed records of equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Adhere to all safety standards when working with hazardous chemicals, abrasive blasting, and grinding equipment.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, face shields, and respirators.
- Comply with all industry regulations, including environmental and safety protocols associated with PCD tool processing.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certification or training in machining, toolmaking, or material processing preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience working with PCD tools, abrasive blasting, surface grinding, or etching is strongly preferred.
- Skills:
- Ability to read interpret blueprints.
- Expertise in handling PCD materials and cutting tools.
- Strong knowledge of surface grinding and media blasting techniques and equipment is preferred; we will train the right individual.
- Familiarity with laser etching and bead blasting methods suited for delicate tooling materials.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and interpret results.
- Certifications: Relevant safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, Hazardous Material Handling) are a plus.
