At Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), our mission starts with the breeding and care of puppies who are on a journey to potentially become guide dogs for the blind or visually impaired. As Field Service Manager, you’ll provide crucial service and support to GDB client-dog teams and applicants via phone and in person, at either our Oregon or California campus. We’ll rely on you to assess applicants, make admission recommendations, promote GDB through public programs, maintain dog training and client instruction best practices and manage routine and complex scenarios throughout the life of guide dog and K9 buddy teams. This is a campus-based position that may be based at either of GDB’s campuses in San Rafael, CA or Boring, OR.
What you’ll do:
  • Provide comprehensive support and problem resolution for clients in person and virtually, and in highly varied circumstances, including home visits, class-to-home transitions, dog welfare, complex client cases and dispute management
  • Provide global, objective and subjective assessment of applicant’s qualification for admission, including home interviews, program recommendations and resource support
  • Instruct clients and support Guide Dog Mobility Instructor (GDMI) education and development through in-home training, K9 buddy partnerships and apprentice mentorship
  • Represent GDB and Training and Field Services internally/externally through support of outreach and advocacy programs, Alumni Association activities and marketing and development efforts

The qualifications you’ll need:
  • Qualified GDMI by GDB or other International Guide Dog Federation accredited organization
  • Ability to consistently train and evaluate a broad range of dogs weighing up to 90 pounds, and teach a wide range of clients, ensuring dog welfare and sustainability while producing desired results
  • Ability to skillfully navigate high-stress and emotional conversations and clearly communicate expectations/outcomes to clients
  • Ability to maintain a high case load, resolve complex problems and lead a team
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment, computer programs, and databases including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel across North America up to 50% of the time
  • Bilingual language skills highly desired

Pay Range
California: $98,000/year - $120,000/year
Oregon: $83,000/year - $102,000/year
