Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Traffic Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing traffic systems to ensure safe and efficient movement of people and goods. This role involves conducting traffic studies, preparing reports, and recommending improvements to traffic control devices and roadway infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct traffic impact studies, signal warrant analyses, and corridor studies.
- Design and review traffic signal plans, signage, pavement markings, and traffic control plans.
- Analyze traffic flow patterns using modeling and simulation tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM).
- Recommend and implement traffic control measures such as signals, signs, roundabouts, and lane modifications.
- Collaborate with city planners, civil engineers, and public safety officials on transportation projects.
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding traffic issues and safety concerns.
- Ensure all traffic designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., MUTCD, AASHTO, FHWA).
- Assist in preparing grant applications and cost estimates for traffic-related projects.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved traffic plans.
- Stay current with emerging transportation technologies and smart traffic solutions.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering (more for senior roles).
- RSP1 Certification
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification may be acceptable for junior positions.
Skills:
- Proficient in traffic engineering software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with roadway design standards and safety regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Transportation or Civil Engineering.
- Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and traffic signal coordination.
- Experience working with public agencies or municipalities.
Working Conditions:
- Office environment with occasional site visits and field work.
- May require occasional evening or weekend meetings with the public or stakeholders.
Salary : $80,000 - $100,000
