JOB DESCRIPTION: STAFF ACCOUNTANT
SUMMARY: The ideal candidate is responsible for managing monthly financial statements, maintaining the general ledger, reconciling accounts, and processing invoices. Key tasks include assisting with audits, filing sales tax returns, managing journal entries, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records and fixed assets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be required)
• Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
• Maintains the general ledger
• Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books
• Reconciles bank accounts monthly and verifies deposits and withdrawals
• Reconciles cash disbursements, payroll, intercompany, and other financial accounts
• Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
• Review accounts for discrepancies and reconciles differences
• Prepares recurring and monthly journal entries
• Records Fixed Asset activity and reconciles to the general ledger
• Provides outside auditors with assistance by gathering necessary account information
• Prepares and files sales tax returns
• Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting is required. 2-3 years of Accounting experience is required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Knowledge of general financial accounting
• Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
• Ability to prepare tax reports
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• QuickBooks experience is strongly desired
• Experience using Sage Intact and Great Plains accounting software is preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bilingual in Spanish and English is not a requirement but is preferred.
