Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The purpose of this position is to oversee breastfeeding promotion and support activities within the Guilford County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and community.

Examples of Duties
- Individual is responsible for the planning, management, implementation, and evaluation of the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program including training and supervising Infant Care Counselors
- Functions as the Breastfeeding Coordinator by managing breastfeeding promotion and support activities within the local agency and community
- Serves as agency’s Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE) providing breastfeeding expertise and care for WIC participants experiencing problems outside the scope of practice of the Infant Care Counselor or Competent Professional Authority (CPA)
- Assist the WIC Director with planning, coordinating, and evaluating the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- Collaborate with other WIC supervisors to manage clinic operations

- Demonstrated skill in program management
- Demonstrated expertise in breastfeeding management and promotion
- Knowledge and skill in nutrition, dietary assessment techniques, and interpretation of data.
- Skill in organization and management of time and resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to relate to and with work with people of all ages, social, and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to coach, mentor, and supervise others
- Ability to collaborate with people from local government, healthcare, and community members
- Ability to develop training materials and presentations for diverse audiences
- Knowledge of community resources available to assist and provide treatment to breastfeeding women
- Experience with common office software programs
Typical Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of supervisory experience
At least two years of experience counseling & developing care plans for breastfeeding dyads
Experience in WIC, similar federal nutrition programs, and/or maternal and child nutrition programs
Administering the Class
Administering the Class - Candidates should provide documentation of certification status from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and university or college transcripts.
