GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Supervises all day to day security functions occurring on County owned, leased, or rented property within the Greensboro or High Point regions.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for supervising the personal and physical security for a geographical area of the County (Greensboro or High Point). Routine work assignments are known by the incumbents and are performed with a considerable degree of independence and initiative. Special assignments may be in the form of oral or written instructions from supervisory staff or county agencies to provide security services, review procedures, examine problems, or such as inquiries from the public or specific requests for services from County agencies. Work is evaluated through periodic reviews of work performed, documentation of resolution of complaints, and personal conferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Tasks
- Coordinates the services of private security agencies as well as contracted law enforcement officers in providing security services to County personnel and property.
- Conducts personal and work-related security training to County personnel.
- Assigns and reviews the work of supervisory and non-supervisory staff as well as contracted agency personnel; establishes work standards and coordinates work efforts with contracted security; evaluates performance of all personnel and contracted agency staff.
- Ensures adequate staffing levels within budgeted constraints.
- Conducts investigations and/or reviews security of facilities, equipment, and employees.
- Operates specialized detection and surveillance equipment.
- Trains new staff and contracted security personnel in security procedures.
- Serves in an official capacity as a site supervisor coordinating with staff and law enforcement agencies as required.
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
• Knowledge of management practices and supervisory techniques sufficient to supervise and evaluate personnel.
• Knowledge of effective training practices and techniques to create lesson plans and train staff.
• Knowledge of effective verbal and written communication techniques and methods sufficient to write performance evaluation plans, inspection reports, document analysis of facts, and interact with all types of personnel and the public.
• Knowledge of staffing and scheduling of staff to optimize human resources and budget constraints.
• Knowledge of electronic and video security monitoring devices and maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of information transfer including deductive reasoning, inference, and other aspects of logic.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and five years experience in security or law enforcement work, two years of which must have been at the supervisory level. A valid vehicle operator's permit in the state of residency is required.
Necessary Special Qualifications
No felony or first-degree misdemeanor convictions directly related to responsibilities of the position. All applicants will be required to undergo a thorough security background investigation and will have to become licensed to carry a firearm in the State of NC.
Physical Demands
Work requires light physical effort such as long periods of standing or sitting in one position; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of objects up to 20 pounds or occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds; sustained monitoring of surveillance cameras.
Working Conditions
Environment: Work environment involves some discomforts or unpleasantness such as moderate levels of noise from machines, vibrations, and dust; exposure to cold, heat, rain and snow encountered in working outside.
Hazards
Work involves some risks requiring special procedures, safety precautions, and/or the use of special equipment such as batons, shields, protective clothing, gloves, etc. Work involves exposure to abusive, aggressive, and unpredictable behavior from clients or the general public in a work location to which the public has unrestricted, open access.
Driving is Essential
Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
