Instructor, Welding Technology - Occupational Extension - Adjunct
Summary
The Guilford Technical Community College seeks an Instructor to teach welding courses in short-term certification programs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in welding technology and industry experience. They will be responsible for developing, preparing, and teaching welding courses, as well as maintaining the welding facilities and collaborating with industry partners to ensure curriculum relevancy.
Responsibilities
Teaching
• Develop learner-centered lesson plans
• Employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles
• Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments
• Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
• Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials
• Conduct assessment of student learning outcomes
Professional Development
• Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field
• Maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation
• Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
Administration
• Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment
• Provide for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials
• Maintain student records using various technology-based programs
• Comply with applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations
Student Support
• Address student concerns in a timely manner
• Promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
• Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate
• Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem-solving, responsibility, and teamwork
Requirements
Education Required:
• Diploma in Welding Technology from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution or the equivalent
• Current welding certifications (obtained or held within the past 5 years) e.g., Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
Experience Required:
• 3 years of recent and relevant industry experience as a welder
• Experience welding to American Welding Society certification standards
• Experience with oxy fuel cutting and other thermal cutting processes
• Experience with visual inspection of welds to a code or standard
Preferred Qualifications
• Greater than 3 years of recent and relevant industry experience as a welder
• Teaching experience or industry training experience
