Job Overview
The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the entire logistics and supply chain operations at Gulbrandsen Inc. This role involves strategic planning and coordination of transportation, warehousing, and distribution activities while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards related to chemical logistics. The Logistics Manager will lead a team of logistics professionals, including coordinators, and drivers, and collaborate with cross-functional departments to drive efficiency, cost savings, and service excellence. The Logistics Manager will report to the Customer Service Manager.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to support business goals, ensuring efficient and safe transportation of chemical products.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a logistics team, fostering continuous improvement and a strong safety culture.
- Manage end-to-end supply chain operations, including procurement logistics, warehousing, distribution, and transportation.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and international regulations for hazardous materials handling and transportation.
- Negotiate contracts with carriers and third-party logistics providers to secure cost-effective, reliable transportation solutions.
- Optimize logistics processes through data-driven analysis, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, procurement, customer service) to align logistics with supply chain objectives.
- Utilize SAP and advanced logistics software for shipment planning, tracking, inventory control, and reporting.
- Implement safety protocols and emergency response procedures for hazardous materials transportation and storage.
- Oversee railcar logistics, including fleet management, scheduling, and issue resolution with rail carriers.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate logistics performance and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure timely preparation and accuracy of shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, hazardous materials declarations, and compliance documents.
- Lead logistics audits and risk assessments to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
- Drive sustainability initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of logistics operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (required);
- 7 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management within a chemical or manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 5 years of management experience leading diverse logistics teams.
- Proficiency in SAP and advanced logistics software.
- Extensive knowledge of hazardous materials handling, shipping regulations (DOT, IATA, IMDG), and global trade compliance.
- Proven experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and cost management.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

- Occasional travel is required to meet with vendors, carriers, and other Gulbrandsen locations.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a warehouse/plant environment when necessary
