This position's main objective is to develop and direct all risk management programs for the Cooperative which will prevent and minimize injuries, illnesses, and health risks for all employees.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health Disciplines or similar field required.
Three to four years in the electric distribution industry required.
Core job functions include but are not limited to :
- Conduct Post Accident Investigations.
- Keep up to date Gulf Coast Safety Manual.
- Hold Safety meetings monthly.
- Inspect all buildings, equipment, work sites, and tools to see that they meet safety requirements. Ensure availability of adequate first aid and fire extinguisher equipment. Determine with departments, safety equipment needs and check all such equipment.
- Conduct random safety inspections in the field and offices.
- Maintain good safety relations with employees and public.
- Conduct safety meetings with Safety Committee monthly.
- Furnish any safety news Marketing and communications for Newsletter.
- Assist in enforcement of all safety regulations.
- Conduct and teach safety supervisor classes and lineman training.
- Maintain records required by Federal Government, the State, and the Cooperative. Maintain records of safety meetings held with the date, subject and names of persons attending.
- Investigate and follow up on all worker's compensation and public liability insurance claims.
- Schedule dielectric testing of bucket trucks and hot sticks.
- Establish and conduct a testing program of individual safety straps and climbing belts.
- Responsible for testing, change out, and record keeping of all rubber protective equipment, as well as FR uniforms and all other uniforms for field personnel.
- Conduct safety investigations when notified of the existence of unsafe equipment and working conditions and corrects or recommends corrective actions for any unsafe conditions.
