Job Title: Director of Operations, Bragg-Mitchell Mansion
Reports To: Exploreum Executive Director
Position Overview: The Director of Operations at Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the mansion, ensuring its smooth and efficient functioning in alignment with the Braggs mission. This position manages all aspects of the mansion, including staffing, special events, tours, rentals, maintenance, and the creation of monthly operational reports. The Director of Operations will also be tasked with developing and maintaining the mansion’s fiscal budget, securing funding through grant writing, and implementing strategic plans for the continued success and preservation of the mansion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Staff Management & Supervision:
- Hire, train, and supervise mansion staff, including tour guides, event coordinators, and maintenance personnel.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and ensure staff adherence to operational procedures and guest service standards.
- Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for tours, events, and maintenance needs.
- Event Management:
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of special events, including but not limited to weddings, corporate functions, and educational programs.
- Work with clients and vendors to ensure seamless execution of events, while adhering to the mansion’s policies and procedures.
- Act as the primary point of contact for event inquiries and bookings.
- Tour Operations & Visitor Services:
- Ensure high-quality, engaging, and educational tours are delivered to guests.
- Oversee the scheduling and training of tour guides and staff to provide exceptional guest experiences.
- Develop strategies to enhance the visitor experience and maximize attendance.
- House Maintenance & Preservation:
- Manage the maintenance and preservation of the mansion’s historic property, including regular inspections and scheduling of repairs and improvements.
- Collaborate with preservation specialists to ensure compliance with historical standards and regulations.
- Fiscal Management & Budgeting:
- Develop and manage the mansion’s annual budget, ensuring financial efficiency and sustainability.
- Monitor expenses, forecast future costs, and provide regular financial reports to the Executive Director.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications to secure funding for maintenance, programs, and operations.
- Grant Writing & Fundraising:
- Research and identify potential grant opportunities that align with the mission of the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to write and submit grant proposals to secure funding for operations, special projects, and preservation efforts.
- Monthly Reporting:
- Provide monthly operational reports to the Executive Director, including updates on staffing, finances, maintenance, events, and tours.
- Offer strategic recommendations for improvements or changes based on performance metrics and feedback.
Qualifications:
- Experience in operations/event management, preferably within a museum, historic site, or event planning environment.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage teams and budgets.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of historic preservation practices and property management.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and inventory software.
Work Conditions:
