Direct Care Companion-Floaters provide direct care "companionship services" for the care, fellowship, and protection of persons who, because of advanced age or physical or mental infirmity, cannot care for themselves and to help them reach their maximum potential. An individual designated as a "Floater" does not have a set schedule, accepts assignments as needed, and fills in vacant shifts on short notice.
Tasks involved in the job of a Direct Service Worker could include:
- Companionship for a person who cannot be left alone because of a physical or cognitive impairment.
- Teaching adults with disabilities skills necessary to manage living by themselves.
- Assisting a child who has physical disabilities to participate in everyday school activities.
- Helping someone with bathing, dressing, toileting, or getting in and out of bed.
- Checking a person’s temperature, pulse, blood pressure or taking their medicine.
- Assisting people with grocery shopping, running errands and community recreation.
- Helping with meal preparation, eating, or housekeeping.

At the time of hire, the following will be required for employment:
- Social Security Card.
- Proof of a valid Driver’s License.
- Proof of current auto liability insurance.
- Unlimited access to a reliable vehicle in safe operating condition with a current inspection sticker.
