Under general supervision, develops, implements, monitors, evaluates, and supervises the operations of assigned aquatics facilities, staff and programs. Areas of responsibility include leading aquatics programs, overseeing aquatics facilities, evaluating program curricula, and managing aquatics safety and maintenance activities. Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff; initiates new community-based programs and activities; and performs related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Coordinates the development, management and implementation of aquatic programs to meet the needs of the community; Ensures high program standards are followed; recruits competent water safety staff and instructors; monitors all aquatic operations and programs; conducts meetings with instructors, participants and staff; plans for and purchases equipment, supplies and other items needed for facility use and programming; prepares schedules for fitness classes, special programs and events; Prepares and meets annual and long range program and departmental goals. Ensure the facility is appropriately equipped to deliver aquatic programs. Surveys patrons and evaluates programs to determine public needs and how to increase program efficiency and effectiveness; Coordinate comprehensive year round swim programs.Directs the maintenance and safety of pools to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related care; Performs regular safety inspections of pools and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety to the patrons; Oversees the development and implementation of emergency action plans Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; Ensures pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation; Monitors area facility/programs are operating optimally and report all concerns to manager. Responds to emergency situations on site by implementing protocol, calling 911, and completing accident and/or incident reports for record. Responsible for the recruitment, training, hiring, appraising, scheduling and coordination of aquatics facility personnel and retention plans; Oversee the delivery of lifeguarding and instructional services. Develops water safety and lifeguard operation manuals. Coordinates training of staff in all aspects of water safety, coaching and instruction; Ensures that all certifications of staff are maintained and routine in-service training is provided; Provide strategic directives to and supervision of subordinates; Create work schedules for proper coverage during operation hours; Establishing deadlines, hiring and appraising performance; Rewarding and disciplining employees.Completes a variety of administrative tasks for the department; Maintains data in recreation management software for all aquatic related programs and classes; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies; Prepares budget for aquatic program; Prepares and reviews administrative records and reports as needed for aquatics including: attendance reports, purchase orders/invoices, time cards, training records, swim lesson records, pool chemistry records, incident/accident reports, staff records and reports; Develops and maintains records to ensure security, integrity and completeness.Uses excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and all members of the general public. Responds to public inquiries, suggestions and complaints; researches and resolves customer issues in a professional manner; Assist in customer relations through promotion of membership enrollment and assure careful assimilation of patrons into existing and new programs. Represents the City at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; Assists with various marketing and public relation activities; Promotes existing and new programs and/or policies; Assists in the preparation of promotional materials; Conducts evaluations and surveys to gather information for use in improving programming. Works with Marketing Coordinator to relay information to the public. Performs other duties as assigned.
