What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher/ Teacher aide position at Gumedia Nutritional Sciences School?
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, or any other field related to Child Growth and Development
- Or Teaching Certification from Department of Education in Elementary Education, Nursery School, Preschool through Third Grade (P-3)
- Or Child Development Associate® (CDA) credential
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Establish a professional level of rapport with each family to provide quality care and friendly service
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs
- Appropriately supervise children while always keeping them safe
- Implement positive discipline by teaching and guiding children informing them of what behavior is acceptable.
- Have control of your response to difficult behavior and respond in a way that is authoritative, yet kind.
- Create and maintain an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children
- Always utilize the best and most developmentally appropriate childcare practices and methods
- Engage children in play and in activities that stimulate their development
- Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, hand washing, gentle grooming, shoe tying)
- Look after children who are unwell or upset
- Follow all program policies and customer service expectations
- Be able to record and observe child educational and developmental milestones and to communicate findings to parents through our all-in-one daycare app
- Plan daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children and accommodate different learning styles
- Be able to work in small groups or one-on-one with students in the classroom to reinforce instructional material
- Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be at night and/or on weekends
- Help to prepare daily/weekly lesson plans according to policy
- Assist in the responsibility of daily sheets and the daily activities pertaining to eating, sleeping, and bathroom usage
- Maintain a professional self-image and always project the values of the organization
- Collaborate with the Teacher to identify students’ issues and recommend solutions
- Help teachers prepare for instruction by getting materials ready or setting up equipment. Clearing away materials and equipment after lessons
- Give extra help to students who need special accommodations or are struggling with a concept
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Submit to various background checks including those completed through the Department of Human Services and/or State Police Department
- Be CPR and First Aid certified
- Complete a Tuberculosis test and physical and provide a physician’s documentation of both
- Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom
- Possess time management, writing skills, and people skills
- Have a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
- Have an awareness of the unique needs, behaviors, and habits of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
- Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry
- Proficiency in another language or creative specialty is a PLUS
- Be able to tackle other responsibilities as needed for the benefit of the children in our care.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Assistant Teachers report directly to the Lead Teacher and/or Program / Curriculum Coordinator with any questions or concerns they have regarding the children or center policy. If these personnel are not available at the time, or if their questions or concerns are not taken care of to their satisfaction, they may then contact the Director.
