JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Bookstore Manager in overseeing all aspects of bookstore operations and student employees including hiring, and training. Directly responsible for all aspects of the general merchandise budget, ordering and processing of all clothing, gifts, supplies, and department special orders; ensuring adequate stock levels and minimizing costs through effective and efficient management of inventory.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise all student employees.
- Schedule and conduct appointments with sales representatives to select and place orders.
- Determine product design and specifications in alignment with the College's marketing guidelines.
- Prioritize and analyze market trends and economic conditions to meet academic-year and peak-time deadlines for both in-store and e-commerce needs.
- Oversee manual and computerized processing of purchase orders, inventories, ordering, stocking, and markdowns using the most current technology applications.
- Coordinate the return of damaged or defective merchandise to vendors for credit.
- Maintain markdown schedules and monitor necessary stock adjustments.
- Complete sales analysis and forecasts for special events to review with managers and the bookstore team.
- Work with the store manager to maintain appropriate inventory levels and pricing to support both store and departmental budget goals.
- Coordinate department purchases and special orders.
- Participate in opening and closing store procedures weekly.
- Oversee the design, cleanliness, and overall presentation of merchandise across the store and e-commerce platforms to attract both new and repeat customers.
- Work with the bookstore team to implement marketing and advertising strategies, including sale events and clearance plans for slow-moving inventory.
- Ensure consistency of brand image and listing details by supplying accurate and up-to-date product information.
- Ensure all customer transactions are handled professionally, efficiently, and accurately with close attention to pricing, classification, and SKU for inventory control.
- Provide a consistently high level of customer service to internal and external constituents, with enthusiasm and energy.
- Ensure compliance with management policies at the point of sale, including those related to credit card transactions, returns, security, and other store procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Prerequisites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of bookstore or retail related experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead others
- Ability to analyze and detect inaccuracies
- Basic knowledge & understanding of POS systems
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 years of college bookstore experience and student workers
- Understanding of the technology landscape as it relates to e-commerce
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Onsite daily, not a remote position
- Depending upon bookstore needs, work weekends or other shifts at key times
- Ability to sit for extended periods
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for periods
- Ability to reach, stoop, and lift on a frequent basis
- Occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
