What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Inspection Associate II - Stormwater Quality position at Gwinnett County?
This position will support the MS4 Compliance: Illicit Discharge & Illegal Connection Workgroup in the Technical Services Division. Duties will include completion of field activities such as: collecting surface water quality samples, performing water quality investigations, and managing inspections at dry weather screening outfalls. This position will interface with customers, consultants, and contractors, and various governmental departments or divisions. The selected individual will perform other duties and responsibilities of similar nature or level as assigned. The position requires a working knowledge of the following:
- Responds to reports from citizens and other agencies regarding water quality or environmental issues.
- Interacts and educates County employees and citizens on environmental issues and concerns.
- Performs field investigations to identify and eliminate pollutant sources from the County’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), and coordinates with other agencies as appropriate.
- Inspects lakes, streams, sewage systems, businesses, and other establishments for compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
- Collects water quality samples and performs both in-situ and laboratory analysis on samples.
- Interprets sample results to determine compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Issues environmental enforcement when appropriate.
- Maintains a database of users, records, and other information detailing testing results and compliance.
- Assists with the collection of routine water quality samples and/or outfall inspections in accordance with the County’s MS4 Program.
- Stormwater control measure inspection support as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in engineering, business management, project management, environmental science, or a related field
- Two years of related experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Ecology, Biology or a related field
- Sampling Techniques
- Basic Chemistry and Biology Principles
- Applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- In-situ and laboratory testing equipment and procedures
- Environmental Enforcement
- Performing Water Quality testing and analysis
- Interpreting test results
- Operating a computer and applicable software applications
