What are the responsibilities and job description for the Evidence Technician position at Gwinnett County?
The Gwinnett County Police Department is looking to fill a vacant Evidence Technician position. The Evidence Technician role is responsible for receiving and storing evidence in appropriate storage locations, following all current policies and procedures to ensure proper chain of custody is maintained, and logging, tracking and completing appropriate paperwork regarding evidence storage. This role is additionally responsible for entering information into records management system (RMS).
Essential Duties
- Assisting department personnel and other customers by answering phones, researching basic information, and preparing files
- Gathering information through GCIC/NCIC and other systems
- Notifying evidence owner if items can be released or preparing items to be destroyed, completing appropriate paperwork for either transaction
- Overseeing preparation, delivery and the return of property and evidence from the crime lab and other locations while following established chain of custody procedures
- Preparing evidence for auction, processing paperwork, and depositing money after auction is completed, entering activity status information into chain of custody and RMS
- Testifying in court to the integrity, preservation, transportation and chain of custody of property and evidence.
- This job is in a public safety department. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a public safety background is required to include motor vehicle & criminal histories, credit check, and fingerprinting.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED AND
- One year of customer service experience OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
- Must obtain GCIC/NCIC certification within one year
