This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.
Job DescriptionThe Part-time Building Brains Afterschool Program Leader will assist the afterschool director in the planning and implementation of daily programming which will meet the needs of the children in attendance. The successful candidate will collaborate and assist staff in designing and implementing activities and assignments to encourage attendee's intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment and abilities. They will assist students in working on and completing after school program assignments, projects, and activities; help set up programs, projects, and activity areas as needed; and monitor children to ensure their health, safety, and physical well-being.
Essential Duties
- Monitoring individuals or small groups of students assigned to an after-school program
- Assuring student understanding of program rules and procedures; maintain appropriate order and student conduct
- Monitoring children to ensure their health, safety, and physical well-being
- Enforcing and ensuring health and safety rules and procedures are observed
- Interacting with children in an effort to build self-esteem and form a comfort level with their peers; answer student questions, provide proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance
- Assisting the afterschool director with planning and conducting an orientation program for parents and students
- Assisting the afterschool director with the development and coordination of a calendar for program activities and events
- Demonstrating and assisting students with art projects
- Overseeing students in physical activities, including but not limited to, basketball, kickball, softball, dodgeball, running, etc.
- Assisting in maintaining program standards of student behavior, assisting in resolving student disputes, and referring serious discipline problems to program supervisors
- Maintaining a clean and organized environment for students
- Performing clerical duties in support of program activities
- Operating a variety of supplies and equipment including athletic equipment, arts and crafts equipment, and office equipment as assigned
- Acting as a liaison between parents, staff, and school personnel
- Assisting in the maintenance of accounting procedures for budgeting and expenditures and inventory of equipment and supplies
- Assisting with student enrollment
- Collaborating to develop and implement a public relations agenda to promote student enrollment and communicate the programming objectives and activities
- Participating in regular staff meetings and assist with in-service training as needed
Public Speaking Duties
- Must be able to lead educational programs in front of 10 to 25 children.
- Must be able to interact with individuals or small groups of students with patience and grace.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- One year of experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp, afterschool program, daycare, or similar setting
- Valid driver's license
- CPR/First Aid certification will be required within 90 days of employment.
- Associate degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or an equivalent combination of experience in a related field
