This Volunteer Program Coordinator will serve as a primary contact for volunteer engagement across Gwinnett County, Gwinnett Serves Partners, and government-supported programs, including internal engagement opportunities and corporate volunteer initiatives, ensuring best practices in recruitment, training, recognition, and retention. This role will oversee the Volunteer Gwinnett digital platform (CERVIS) to enhance user experience, track engagement, and improve program efficiency. The position will work to build partnerships with nonprofits, businesses, and community groups to expand volunteer opportunities and lead public programming through events, outreach, and speaking engagements, as well as develop volunteer recognition efforts, including appreciation events and nonprofit collaborations, while promoting key initiatives like food insecurity programs and county-wide service projects.
Essential Duties
- Providing oversight and strategic direction for county-wide volunteer programs, ensuring effective recruitment, engagement, and coordination across departments and community partners
- Supervising staff and volunteers, providing training, support, and guidance to enhance program effectiveness
- Planning and executing large-scale volunteer events, including logistics, setup, and post-event evaluation
- Operating county vehicles transporting materials and equipment for volunteer-related events
- Overseeing volunteer management systems, ensuring accurate records, reporting, and compliance with data retention policies
- Building and maintaining partnerships with nonprofits, businesses, and community stakeholders to expand volunteer opportunities and civic engagement
- Leading public engagement efforts, including speaking engagements, outreach, and programming to increase awareness and participation
- Developing and implementing volunteer recognition efforts, including appreciation events and incentives to enhance retention
- Preparing reports and analyzing program data to assess impact
- Tracking volunteer metrics, and enhancing the volunteer experience through technology
- Working flexible hours, including weekends and evenings and/or holidays, on-call rotation, emergency after hours to support key volunteer initiatives and county events
- Developing reporting strategies to effectively communicate volunteer contributions and community impact across Gwinnett County
Public Speaking
- Leading and speaking at major volunteer initiatives, including Gwinnett Great Days of Service, National Volunteer Week, and service-focused weekends like MLK Day of Service, to promote volunteer participation and recognize community impact
- Presenting at Gwinnett County leadership academies on Social Impact programs and volunteer engagement opportunities, educating internal staff and leadership on ways to integrate volunteerism into county initiatives
- Representing the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Impact at tabling events and government proclamations across Gwinnett County, engaging with residents and providing knowledgeable insights on volunteer opportunities, county programs, and government operations across all departments and community partnerships
Grade
- The Grade for this position is C42(1). Salary will be dependent on experience and education.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or 2 years of experience in communications, business, public administration, or a related field
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Valid driver's license from state of residency
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in communications, business administration, public administration, non-profit management, human services, or a related field.
- Four years of experience in a volunteer program that includes one year experience promoting, recruiting, supervising, training, placing, and one year supervising volunteers.
