Position Summary
The Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach is responsible for all aspects of the men’s and women’s volleyball programs, including (but not limited to) practice and game preparation, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, hiring and supervision of assistant coaches, budget management, fund-raising, scheduling, and strict adherence to all NCAA and university rules. This is a 12-month, full-time position. The Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach will also support the Assistant Director of Athletics with NCAA Compliance.
NOTE: The Men’s Volleyball program will be new, beginning play for the 2026-27 academic year.
For the 2025-26 academic year, the men’s head coach will be required to recruit a roster of 15 men’s volleyball student-athletes. The women’s volleyball program is established and recruitment will also consist of a full-roster of 15 student-athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct the planning, organizing scheduling and coaching of the men’s and women’s volleyball programs
- Supervise the volleyball staff in the recruitment of new players
- Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes
- Direct and coordinate the activities of the volleyball staff to include the planning, organizing and coaching of the team, in compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA policies
- Direct the volleyball staff in the preparation of analysis of opponent teams, analyzing meet statistics and tactical data of opponents
- Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters; consult with University administration and faculty for resolution of problems as needed
- Determine teams’ fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds
- Direct various personnel functions of the Assistant Coaches including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, recruitment and vacation scheduling
- Study, evaluate and implement innovations in volleyball strategy and equipment
- Develop, coordinate and publicize camp programs, and fundraising activities
- Represent the Gwynedd Mercy University Athletic Department in professional, civic, charity, and alumni events
- Compliance: Under the supervision/direction of the Assistant Athletic Director, monitor transfers per NCAA, Conference and University bylaws

Education:
Bachelor's degree required. Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
Experience:
Four or more years of relevant coaching experience.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with computers, recruitment software, budgeting, Microsoft Office suite
Language Skills:
Effective written and verbal communication is essential. Ability to articulate athletic policies and procedures. Ability to respond to and manage diverse constituencies.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to develop budgetary, demographic and other reports that may require mathematical computations. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to supervise and evaluate assistant coaches’ performance. Ability to interact with diverse groups of students on a one-to-one basis and in groups. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, parents and families.
