What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operator In Training position at H2O Innovation Inc.?
The Water & Wastewater Treatment Operator in Training will be under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. In this role, you will accomplish a variety of duties while overseeing a number of pump stations. Our next colleague will hold a permanent & full-time position.

The Day-to-Day
- Perform routine water and wastewater tests as directed by the manager; record results and update the logbook;
- Learn basic operations, maintenance, data collection, and company policies, including tank names and plumbing at assigned facilities;
- Conduct daily lab tests and enter data into SharePoint;
- Collect and enter meter readings into SharePoint;
- Collect regulatory samples as instructed by the manager;
- Be available for regulatory walkthroughs at assigned facilities;
- Notify the manager if new bench or SharePoint sheets are needed;
- Track lab supplies and chemicals; inform the manager when supplies need replenishing;
- Perform basic maintenance on treatment units under the manager’s direction;
- Troubleshoot equipment issues as instructed and report needed repairs (e.g., pumps, valves, motors, blowers);
- Calculate and adjust chemical feed rates based on lab results, following the manager's instructions to meet plant requirements;
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures;
- Maintain cleanliness and organization at the facility, including waste removal, sweeping, mopping, and groundskeeping (e.g., mowing, snow removal);
- Be available for on-call emergencies with a 60-minute response time;
- Contact the manager with any concerns or questions about the facilities;
- Inform the manager of any operational changes or trends at assigned facilities;
- Assist teammates as needed;
- Perform other duties as required.
The Skills We Are Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Valid state driver’s license (no DUIs, no more than 3 violations in the past 3 years, and must have held a valid license for 3 years);
- Must be 21 years or older;
- Willing to obtain certification as required;
- Preferred: Some technical or mechanical experience;
- Computer skills are a plus, but not required—training will be provided.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to speak and hear: 4-8 hours/day;
- Walking & standing: 4-8 hours/day;
- Bending, reaching, pushing, pulling: 4-8 hours/day;
- Use hands & fingers to handle, touch, and reach: 4-8 hours/day;
- Climb stairs or ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and sit;
- Lift 10-25 lbs regularly; up to 50 lbs occasionally;
- Vision: Must be able to distinguish color and have both close and distance vision;
- Ability to operate gasoline, diesel, or gas-powered motors and use hand tools.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Busy, inside and outside, including exposure to heat, cold, snow, and ice;
- Noise level: Moderate.
