Description
The Early Childhood Education Manager is crucial in planning, organizing, and supervising a safe and stimulating environment to promote cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth of children through evidence-based methods. Under the direction of the Director of Early Childhood and Youth Education, the individual in this role supervises educational programs and staff for Generations Learning Center, ensuring high-quality care, and fostering a nurturing environment for young children.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation:
- Promote children’s positive self-concept and self-worth by implementing best practices provided by resources from Conscious Discipline, Easter Seals, First 5 and alike tools and methods.
- Plan age-appropriate activities, events and curriculum. Balance play and academics. Ensure the center provides purposeful play opportunities to achieve mastery of state/federal/program standards.
- Ensure and reinforce the policies and procedures for following all applicable licensing regulations, policies and procedures, and any other educational requirements.
Staff Supervision & Training:
- Supervise and review the performance of teachers and ensure all required training and certifications are up to date.
- Approve staffing schedule and times.
Parent and Community Engagement:
- Develop positive relationships with children, families, coworkers, HPUL Departments, neighboring tribal education departments, school districts and other community partners.
- Responsible for all communication between parents, teachers, and community partners; provides feedback to staff and families.
- Assist in planning and facilitating family and community gatherings.
Child Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Observe, assess and evaluate the development of all children and meet with parents, staff, and community partners to support developmental concerns and progress (ages & stages).
Administrative Duties:
- Inform supervisor of all concerns, observations, or information provided by a parent/guardian, teacher or community partner in a timely manner.
- Purchase food, supplies and materials and track expenditures.
- Prepare, track and distribute monthly tuition invoices, handle deposits to the fiscal department.
- Prepare, edit and distribute flyers, notices, and monthly Generations Learning Center newsletter of activities, schedules, upcoming events, available services and resources.
- Uses accounting and other software systems to input purchase orders, member applications, credit card reconciliations, program tracking, and billing.
- Provide monthly report to the Director of Early Childhood and Youth Education
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure the facility's physical environment is in good condition and complies with applicable regulatory standards.
- Manage monthly fire and earthquake drills.
Other Responsibilities:
- Travel to attend conferences and schedule in-service training throughout the year.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to Tribal history, lifestyle, and culture.
- Maintain a satisfactory attendance record.
- Act in limited capacity in the absence of the Education Director.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent is required.
- AA Degree or certificate in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, or related field to include 6 units Administration of Preschool and one year of field experience, OR
- 3 years working in an Early Childhood Education environment and 6 units of Administration of Preschool.
- This position will continue to accumulate 24 hours of professional development annually and/or enroll in 6 college course units annually with the goal of obtaining an AA Degree or certificate to include 6 units of preschool administration courses.
- Prior experience working with children with special needs is highly preferred.

Certificates and Licenses
- CPR/1st Aid Certification, Mandated Reporter Training, and TB Test requirements.
- Required to possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Tribe’s insurance carrier.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching down and stretching overhead, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
- Frequently move, transport, and manipulate equipment and items up to 35 pounds.
- May lift or hold infants and occasionally children up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Safely use kitchen equipment and implements that can be heavy, hot, or sharp, as well as cleaning and sanitizing products.
- Able to complete job tasks in an environment that can be noisy and includes the comings and goings of small children and their families.
- Must comply with regulatory immunization requirements.
Compensation: The hiring range for this position is from $27.84 to $37.03 per hour. The compensation offered for this position will fall between this range based on the candidate’s level of skills, experience, and education.
