Fundamentals Analyst

We have a vacancy for an Energy Market Fundamentals Analyst to join our Commercial team based in Austin, Texas. This role will lead development and maintenance of fundamental models for short and long term forecasting.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Utilize DCOPF model to evaluate transmission congestion, price formation, and forward curves
- Gather and process large datasets, including ISO-provided market data (e.g., load forecasts, generation availability, and transmission topology)
- Provide recommendations for market participation strategies based on model outputs and insights.
- Support development of new internal products by working with Habitat’s team of data scientists and software engineers to define performance metrics, market rules, and commercial strategies.
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of fundamentals modeling framework
‘Must have’ skills and experience:
- Experience building and maintaining DCOPF models to support market price forecasting, with applications in evaluating point-to-points or FTR contracts, constructing forward curves, and comparing opportunities across the North American wholesale markets. Proven ability to translate power system fundamentals into actionable insights through robust and scalable modeling frameworks.
- Proficient in Excel, Python, DCOPF experience
- Comfort managing large datasets and building tools
- Ability to work diligently and professionally under high pressure situations
- Passion for learning, competition
- Ability to engage a team and justify model outputs
‘Nice to have’ skills and experience:
- ERCOT-specific trading experience
- Experience performing analysis on energy storage resources
- Experience structuring products related to carbon offset, long-term financing of renewables or energy storage assets
- Background in optimization, ML-based forecasting
- Comfort presenting to clients, board members, prospective clients
