Job Description: Development Director
Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Position Overview:
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls seeks a Development Director to expand its fundraising capacity and improve affordable housing opportunities in Minnehaha, Lincoln, and Turner Counties. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with individuals, businesses, churches, organizations, and foundations while implementing fundraising strategies aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to develop and formalize a multi-year fundraising strategy. Part-time applicants may be considered based on qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cultivate relationships with current donors and prospects through personal visits, follow-ups, and other engagement activities to expand the donor base.
- Develop a multi-year fundraising plan with clear, measurable goals.
- Lead the Fund Development Committee, utilizing a team-based approach to implement fundraising strategies that foster and sustain donor engagement.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Marketing & Communications Coordinator to plan and execute Habitat’s annual signature fundraising event.
- Assist with follow-up calls, mailings, and other activities that strengthen donor relationships and enhance confidence in the organization.
- Work with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to develop donor mailings, appeal letters, and other targeted outreach materials.
- Partner with community organizations to facilitate third-party fundraisers and advocacy events for affordable housing.
- Oversee administrative tasks related to fundraising, including donor acquisition, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Prepare reports to evaluate fundraising efforts and provide monthly progress updates on work plan implementation.
- Identify and participate in speaking engagements and outreach opportunities to share information about Habitat’s mission, goals, and impact.
Hours & Employment Status:
This is a full-time, salaried exempt position, typically working Monday–Friday during standard business hours. A part-time, non-exempt option may be considered based on the candidate's qualifications.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of fundraising/public relations experience OR at least four years of fundraising/public relations experience.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiastic, team-oriented mindset with strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of community members.
- Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
Reporting Structure:
The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Board of Directors and other staff members in a team-oriented environment that values mutual respect and cooperation among staff and volunteers.

Salary : $55,000 - $70,000
